English
Overview
Through our English curriculum, children will gain a secure understanding of phonics, to achieve fluency and be able to read at speed. They will master comprehension, being able to access and increase their knowledge and understanding of other subjects.
They will develop reading capital by being familiar with a range of classic, well-known and high-quality literature. And they will develop a love for literature through daily exposure to high quality, diverse and challenging texts.
Children will develop an extensive vocabulary within complex sentence structures, alongside the knowledge of specific literacy features through a text-based approach. They will be confident writers, able to maturely articulate their thoughts in a variety of contexts. They will use this skill to augment their success across the wider curriculum. Children will write fluently and neatly, with speed and accuracy to maximise short-term memory function for the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and composition.
